This month’s session highlights the Best Paper Nominee in the Education Category, Tactical Combat Casualty Care Training: A Blended Approach for Lifelong Learning, submitted by the U.S. Combat Capabilities Development Command, the University of Miami, Allogy, Inc., and the Defense Health Agency.

In a 2015 study on 4,000 combat deaths between 2001 and 2011, it was determined that a quarter of those were potentially preventable had best medical practices been implemented at the time of injury. Of those deaths, 90% were attributed to an uncontrolled hemorrhage. These findings led the DoD to mandate essential TCCC training for over 1 million active-duty personnel on “Medical Readiness Training.” What does it take to make a vision like that happen?

That is the challenge an interdisciplinary team from U.S. Combat Capabilities Development Command, University of Miami, Allogy, Inc., and the Defense Health Agency took up in an effort to revolutionize the process of transforming TCCC from a non-standardized program of instruction into a unified training platform that adapts to provide different tiers of training, tailored to different student audiences, by employing modern learning science and adjusting to the student’s efficacy level.

Join us as we hear from the team about their journey and next steps as they transition the program to the Defense Health Agency. Learn from their experience of developing and delivering content in new ways that keep pace with the speed of learning, deliver to the point of need, and allow instructors to capture, refine, and republish faster than ever to ensure our combat medics are better trained and equipped to save lives on the battlefield.
