Once an applicant has been approved to take the online CMSP Exam, they will receive an email with a link to the CMSP Exam website. The applicant will be given a choice of exam: CMSP-Technical (for engineers and developers) or CMSP-Management (for users/managers).
Applicants will have 14 days to complete the online exam from the moment they click the “Start Exam” button within the CMSP Exam website. Please note that the exam is open book, meaning that you may use notes while taking the exam. Additionally, the CMSP Exam, for both the Technical and Management tracks, will consist of 100 multiple choice and true/false questions generated randomly within each topical area from a question bank of over 2,000 questions.

Taking the CMSP Exam
The email you will receive after your application is approved will contain the link to the CMSP Exam website and a password for logging in. When you log in, select which exam to take—CMSP-Technical or CMSP-Management—and then "de-select" a certain number of exam categories that you would prefer to skip. Once you have completed that process, your exam will be created and you will see the "Start Exam" button.
Once you click on "Start Exam," you will have exactly 14 days to complete and submit the exam. Therefore, do not begin your exam until you are sure you will be able to complete it within the two-week period. This time limit will be emphasized on the CMSP Exam website.
Following the CMSP Exam
Once submitted, your exam will be graded. Within two weeks of the submission of your exam, you will receive notification of your result—either pass or fail. If you do not pass the exam, you must wait six months before re-taking the exam; there is no additional fee to re-take the exam in this scenario.
When you successfully pass the exam, you will receive your CMSP certificate and certificate frame. The CMSP certificate includes your CMSP number and certification’s start and end dates. A CMSP certification is valid for four years. You will also be asked to sign a pledge that you will abide by the Simulationist Code of Ethics.
Appeals can be made in writing and emailed to Carol Dwyer at cdwyer@NDIA.org. Appeals take up to 30 days to receive a response.
